I rolled back to windows 8. Everything worked again perfectly. Under Win8. Then upgraded to Win 10 again and reinstalled Office. Still the same message. All help I can find online refers to Win 7 and Office problems.

His hypothesis is that since there is a previous version activated on the PC its not recognising anything new.
